What an amazing month March turned out to be, we celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary for an entire week, starting of at Le Meridien Al Aqah and finishing at Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa, with a trip to Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Emirates Golf Club inbetween!! The weather has finally broken and we are experiencing a rise in temperatures, it's no secret I prefer the hotter months over the cooler ones. It's Easter this month, so I hope the Easter Bunny is really kind to you all. Have a fabulous month wherever are you are.

The festive season is firmly behind us, but why should eating turkey be! It was good enough to celebrate Christmas Day and I am planning on purchasing another feathered friend (minus the feathers) in the next few months. Weighing in at just 15 dhs a KG what other low fat meat can we buy that is so versatile? There is an array of the old favourites that you can make with turkey but do a bit or research and you will find it can be used in practically anything, from stir fry's, to turkey and chips (low fat ones of course or actifry's as I call them). Meat prices in the UAE seem to vary all the time, but for a decent roasted "bird" I don't think anyone could complain about a 7 kg beast for less than 100 dhs.

We all think it will never happen to us, but you know what it might. No one is safe from the odd RTA or misdemeanour in this Country and over the years I have learnt a few things about dealing with the local Constabulary. I am no expert on such things and would never claim to be, but there are few things I would like to point out to keep you on the straight and narrow and that will help you should you happen to end up a in a situation you are not to familiar with.

First of all, memorise a phone number or two for that matter. Should you happen to have a run in with the Law which involes you being placed in custody the first thing that is removed from you will be your mobile phone and wallet and any other personal belongings, this will probably happen before you are allowed to make any phone calls, so don't rely on your phone to be your memory. You will need to contact someone who will be able to liaise with the Police to try and resolve whatever situation it is that you have managed to get yourself into! I sincerely hope you don't have to thank me for this information but you never know. Stay safe! Read more...

It was November, my car was turning 4 in December and for the previous year it had been in the back of my mind that maybe it was time to let her go and trade her in for a newer model (thank goodness my husband hasn't done that with me). Anyway, being a great believer in fate I duly advertised her and she was sold to the first lady who came to see her. It was love at first sight, just like it had been for me four years earlier when we had bought my first ever brand new car in the UAE. So, with that decision taken out of my hands we headed down to Al Habtoor Motors to order the new one, which was very simple as I knew exactly what I wanted. The deposit was paid and we headed down to the HSBC Bank to apply for the loan that we needed to get the new car. The very nice man in the bankgave us gifts and told us it would take two working days before the loan was transferred into our account, however it was the day before Eid .....

I recently watched a documentary about the fattest man in Britain, at the beginning of the programme they claimed he weighed in at a massive life threatening 70 stone, however it was later revealed that he weighed 57 stone (still life threatening!). As I sat down to watch it I was thinking in my mind I have no pitty for people who let themselves get into a state like this, blah blah. However, on watching it my opinion did change and I began to realise that like some drug addicts and alcoholics he had no control over his eating no matter how hard he tried to control it. These documentaries beg many different questions, where did he get the money from? why did he let himself get into that state? why are the Social Services letting him eat his way to an early death?

Welcome to 2011, I know that everyone (well practically everyone) will be thinking about the weight they have gained over the festive season.

Well I took a brave step and got on the scales yesterday, and to my absolute disgust I now weigh 75 kg!! so my 2011 challenge is to get rid of 10 kg of that weight, I won't be doing this alone, but with the help of my lovely friend Sunjay from Opa Fitness. Yes the poor man has been given the challenge of getting me into a size 12 pair of jeans hopefully by the summer. I am planning on following Slimming World as in my eyes it is a sensible eating plan as opposed to a diet. Some of you are probably sitting there thinking you have heard this all before, course you have, I am a woman and we often fail at dieting, it is one of the "women" things in life! I really want to succeed this time though and shall be using this site to update you all with the ups and downs of dieting, cutting out alcohol and being 45 (I still think I am 30 though). So watch this space I think you will find that it is going to be a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions over the next few months.

And if anyone sees Sunjay offer him my sympathies.
