What an amazing month March turned out to be, we celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary for an entire week, starting of at Le Meridien Al Aqah and finishing at Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa, with a trip to Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Emirates Golf Club inbetween!!  The weather has finally broken and we are experiencing a rise in temperatures, it's no secret I prefer the hotter months over the cooler ones. It's Easter this month, so I hope the Easter Bunny is really kind to you all. Have a fabulous month wherever are you are.

Live each day as if it's your last, a phrase we often hear following a bereavement, one we take on board and then kind of forget once things get back to normal. If you are in my twitter world you will know that in the last ten days we have had two very upsetting deaths to contend with.  I won't go into all the details but I know alot of us are feeling damaged emotionally and finding it very hard to come to terms with.

Let me refer to them as The Big Guy and The Little Guy, they won't be offended by this and it suits them perfectly.  The Big Guy, we all knew that he had fought a strong brave battle with cancer and we were all party to what he went through, we were all able to offer support and tell him how much we thought about him, what an inspiration he was to us all, when he passed I was devastated, but I was expecting it and it wasn't a shock when I heard the sad news.  The Funeral took place on Sunday, there were flowers, family, friends, colleagues and a Vicar talking about Twitter, The Big Guy would have approved of this.

The day before the Funeral I learnt that The Little Guy was having problems, had collapsed, was in the hospital, pray for The Little Guy we were told, we all prayed, we all waited, we all watched, we all cried when he passed away, so so sudden, no time to say goodbye, no time to share a joke, no time to give a hug, he was gone. Ironically The Little Guy passed on the 1st Anniversary of my website, he loved this website, he retweeted that Idiot's Guide to Twitter about 50 times, that is why it has been the most visited article I have ever written.  It was because of him I even wrote it in the first place, I can remember him pestering me to tell him how it all worked properly, as if I knew, hence it was called an Idiot's guide as it had been written by one.

When we lose one of our flock it hurts, it goes right inside your heart, it makes you feel as if you are going to be physically sick.  I think most of us have felt like that over the last ten days.  We have all asked the question, why?  No one knows why, it's just life.

I want each and every one of us to take time out to tell the people in your life that are important to you, that you love them, pick up the phone, send a text, tweet them!! do it however you want, just make sure you do it, because if there is one thing I wish I had done, it would have been to tell The Little Guy what a great person he was, The Big Guy knew.

Rest in Peace

Love always

We had a pretty quiet Christmas, family were back in the Uk this year so we had a BBQ at home, just the three of us.

However for New Years Day I thought it would be nice to have lunch out somewhere instead of slaving in the kitchen making the traditional New Years Day roast.  Since we moved to Al Barsha I had been saying we ought to check out the hotels that are on our doorstep, so I looked up Centro Barsha to see what they had on offer, I was quite pleasantly surprised with their lunch deal so went ahead and booked it.

The Centro Barsha is a small hotel which describes itself and being designed for a new generation of travelling Executives who demand finesse and functionality at reasonable rates.  You can't beat a bit of finesse I have to say.

The first thing that struck me about the restaurant, C.Taste was how clean and well laid out it was. The staff were all warm and welcoming and made a fuss of Mitten.  There was an excellent selection of salads on the salad bar, the Thai Beef being particularly nice. The selection of main courses was really good though I would say there could have been more choice of vegetables the day we dined.  The lamb tagine was amazing so compliments to The Chef on that one.  I don't think I have been to a Rotana yet that hasn't had a Pasta station, this was no exception, superb fresh pasta with a selection of sauces.  The desserts were the usual array of sweet temptations that you find in the UAE, but I did enjoy the profiteroles immensely.

Lunch set us back 99 dhs a head including soft drinks, if we had wanted the alcohol package that would have been 139 dhs, I don't know anyone who would complain at those prices.  You can find a list of all their theme nights/lunches by clicking on this link.  Will we go back to Centro Barsha? yes too right we will!! going to check out the all you can eat Burger night later this month.

Over the next few months I am going to be taking a look at restuarants that are not so well known in Dubai and checking them out.  Before Christmas I was invited to the Cavendish Restaurant at The Bonnington Jumeirah Lakes Towers and was not disappointed.

The Bonnington has fast become an established hotel in Jumeirah Lake Towers, both its bars McGettigans and Healey's have a huge following of regular clientele and boast various different events taking place each week.  You don't hear as much on the grapevine about The Cavendish Restaurant though do you?  Conveniently located downstairs from the reception area of the hotel The Cavendish Restaurant discreetly offers a fabulous menu of diverse dishes that won't disappoint you one bit.   The evening I visited there was an extensive buffet available with the best creme brulees I have had in a long long time, sad to judge a Chef on a creme brulee but that's just me.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant especially if you are living the area, it makes perfect sense! it is also walking distance from the Metro, which is just fabulous at this time of the year.

So complliments to the Chef!

It's Christmas Eve and my site is snowing, that Hinge is a miracle worker when it comes to all things technical, what can I say she is the brains ....

Anyway with less than 24 hours until Christmas Day I know that many of you will be running around town panicking like lunatics getting in last minute bits and pieces for tomorrow.  I just wanted to pop in and wish you all a very Merry Christmas.  I hope you have a super time and that Father Christmas is very generous to you and your loved ones.

Christmas isn't always a happy time and my thoughts are with those of you who will be missing loved ones this year, they will be watching from above I promise.

I wasn't able to make this one but The Toffee One did and this is what she had to say ...

"Towards the end of a very busy December, a few of us decided to take a break from the rush and treat ourselves to a well-earned girls night out.  Although many couldn’t attend due to the time of year, there were still a fair few of us: The Toffee One, The Sparkly One, The Musical One, The Newbie, The Youngster and The Pickled Ones.

Now most of us are no spring chickens anymore so a nightclub or loud smoky environment is just not our thing.  We were looking for something a little bit classy, quiet and relaxing.  We certainly found this at Vantage.

This lovely wine bar can be found on the 5th floor of the hotel and has a large outside seating area with fabulous views over the city.  We chose to start our evening out here despite it being a little chilly. The menu has a varied selection of wines starting at AED 40 a glass.  Sadly there was no fizz at a sensible price but that meant that everyone could choose what she wanted.  It should also be mentioned that as well as the drinks, the staff served an unlimited and very varied selection of nibbles to us all evening so good value indeed!

We chose to move indoors later on as it was getting a little too cold for us who have been here for a long time and ended up staying for far more than the planned 2-3 glasses!

Suffice to say it was a lovely group of ladies and a great time was had by all.  So much so that we decided to make it a regular occurrence although being realistic, we have decided to make it a quarterly event.  It has fallen to The Toffee One to arrange these get-togethers and she has a feeling that it will grow and grow.  Roll on March – now where shall we go?...."

Welcome to 2012, I am starting this year with a thank you note to last year.  Last year wasn't a bad year, it just wasn't a good one either for me personally.   It started of really well, we made a decision to move into a nice villa which went smoothly, I also had my best friend from UK over for a visit just before we moved to celebrate Rachel's 7th Birthday.   It went wrong in the summer when I herniated a disc in my lumbar spine, most of you know about that but there are a few people I really do need to thank for their constant support and help during the last four months of 2012.

To my husband; I have no idea how you have coped living with me for the last four months. Your understanding and patience has been amazing.

To my family; both here and overseas your endless support has kept me going, the messages of support, the facebook updates, the emails, all of them have cheered me up endlessly.

To my friends; first of all Hinge, has been amazing, kept our site going, whilst I think it's safe to say that 2011 wasn't one of her good years either.  To Jill, Janet, Juliette, Suzanne, Keren and Simon, the endless chiro visits, the hospital trips, thanks for being taxi drivers the entire time.

To my neighbours; Miss Nigeria, you are simply the best!  you changed my life for the better and became the best nurse a woman could want!  Debbie, the school run Queen, thank you!!

To the Twitterati; huge huge support from all of you, from right around the globe, "my boys" in Spain, the team up at Le Meridien Al Aqah, Catboy and Dave Hodgson who were there through the night when I couldn't sleep!  Carole and Alice, always caring, always asking, thanks.

To my Slimming World Ladies; the best thing to come out of all of this was losing some weight, you know who you are and you will always be my secret pleasure, and 2012 is going to see even more weight loss for us all.

To my daughter; Mitten you have been the one you has missed out the most, damn Mummy and her bad back, but things are slowly getting back to normal and 2012 is going to be our year, I have a few surprises up my sleeve for all of us.

To my iPhone; I couldn't have got through it without you!!

(edited to say that sadly Dave Hodgson died last night I am still going to send him a copy of this though, he hated to miss anything)
