Personal Recommendations

I first had this idea about 12 months ago. Having been here some time I am constantly asked the same questions about Emirati's and their culture, public and religous holidays etc. I knew that I needed someone who had been born in the UAE to help me materialise this so I started keeping my eyes open on Twitter for someone who had been born here, was Muslim and knowledgable about the Emirati culture. THEN I met Khaled, and I instinctively knew that he was the right man for the job, and Ask An Emirati was launched on facebook. Back then I took a bit of flack from some people as I was not an Emirati, I think they were missing the point entirely, the site wasn't set up for Emirati's but for expats to find out the information that they need about living in the UAE. I am very pleased to say that due to the hard work and determination of Khaled, Ask an Emirati has over 1500 members and offers an invaluable service to us expats. Well done!!! @askanemirati

Emirates Avenue LogoLike shopping? look no further than the amazing Emirates Avenue site which was set up by the lovely Julien and his team in 2008. Julien who hails from France and has the mosting amazing romantic voice saw a gap in the market, and took a gamble with Emirates Avenue, the gamble has paid off and the site is offering more and more shopping surprises! I particularly like the gift section with coloured showerheads etc! We bought our iPhone from Emirates Avenue, efficient delivery (cash on arrival) and the best prices in town!! So if you are after cat food or pet products, iphones or blackberries, look no further than @emiratesavenue

It's no secret that Toffee Princess is a friend of mine and we share a passion for cooking and social media! We met via House of Colour and I honestly don't know how our paths hadn't crossed before. Now here is the best bit, she makes the most fantastic traditional Scottish sweet known as Tablet, and she is so good she does lots of different flavours too!! Looking for a gift with a difference, then look no further than some hand-made Tablet. Toffee Princess is always at the Times Square Arte event. Planning an event or need favours? then this Princess will help you out. or follow her on Twitter @toffeeprincess

Well anyone who knows me won't be surprised to see this one the first one to be mentioned! I am a massive fan of House of Colour. It is nearly two years ago since I had my colour analysis done with House of Colour and I have never looked back. Not only did it change me personally I later went on to work with Janet and in the last 18 months, together we have expanded the Dubai branch of House of Colour and have joined the ranks of Arte (more about that later), selling the fabulous jewellery that Janet makes.

Anyone who is sceptical about this needs to think again, grab the bull by the horns and go and and have an analysis done. Anything that makes you feel good has got to be a good thing! Here is the link for the facebook page, and also the link for their Head Office in the UK which lists all the Agents globally
